Reiki is a simple yet powerful tool for self-healing, not only on the physical levels, but also the mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Reiki is based on channeling a form of energy, or a spiritual energy. Reiki opens you up to the divine source, whatever your perception of that is. Many interpret Reiki energy as having divine origins, they see it as divine love or divine light.
Reiki is not attached to any religions or belief systems; Therefore it never conflicts with an individual's beliefs. Reiki is practiced by many different backgrounds, Pagans, Moslems, Catholics, atheists etc. The word Reiki can be translated as meaning Universal Energy or Soul Energy, there are many other variations on what exactly Reiki actually is translated to, but either way the name is merely a label for a healing energy source.
Reiki works by channeling an energy source, whatever you may call it, it's a form of intelligent energy. This energy is then
transmitted through the practitioner and into the person recieving the healing. I sometimes say that the practitioner is like a tap,
the tap lets the water flow through it and enables us to drink, just as the practitioner is attuned to the energy and allows the energy to
flow through them and enable the person to heal.
Reiki can be a totally different experience from one person to the next. Some may find that they feel little more than a very
relaxed state of mind and body, some may feel sensations of heat on their skin or cold even. Typically when treating men they can fall
asleep through being so relaxed, waking up afterwards feeling like they have awoke from a wonderfull nap. On the whole people feel
a calm and relaxing state where they feel peacefull and safe. Other experiences may be a feeling of heaviness and complete physical
limpness, or even a light floating feeling as if they were lying on a bed of air. No matter how you experience it personally, you will
agree that all of the above are very nice states of relaxation. You don't have to have a problem either to have reiki done, maybe it's
just to de-stress or for personal relaxing time when you want to be pampered, much like a massage.
Reiki treatments can be done with the person lying down on a bed, or sitting in a chair. Preferably the one that relaxes you the
most, because you will be more open to recieve it. The treatment involves a series of hand positions along the persons body, not neccesarily just where the problem is. These hand positions include the head, the chest, the stomach, the upper leg, knees, lower leg, and then the ankles and feet. These are the standard positions for the healing treatment, but the practitioner will also use a more intuitive
method which allows them to treat areas where they feel energy is needed.
Reiki will work for you if it is meant to work for you. Think of it as a highly intelligent energy lifeform, which knows
how to help you for your highest good and where it needs to go in order benefit you most.
